2014 Sightings | June 3

On today’s 10am trip aboard the Cetacea, we headed to the SW corner of Stellwagen. The swells were big, but we were able to spot the blows of 11 humpbacks and also a minke whale. We had scattered groups of 2-3 humpbacks per group kick & bubble net feeding, but today we stayed with Echo and her 2014 calf.

Echo and her calf

Though the swells were big, we were able to get some great looks at Echo’s impressive kick-feeding – some of her splashes reached about 20-30 feet in height!

Echo's fluke

We also observed Echo creating some bubble nets in coordination with her kicking. We left this pair as they began to travel and forage to the next school of fish, taking shallow dives.
